There are two features in QuickBooks I cannot live without and are often overlooked by folks: The View Multiple Window option and the Find Transaction feature.
How often do you jump back and forth between reports, vendors, payables, payroll, even your check register and find yourself re-opening windows or minimizing screens? One click will allow you to toggle among all the open windows: Click View/Open Window List:

Clicking this option opens a list of all the windows you have opened. You can simply click on the one you want to utilize, toggling back and forth as many times as you want.

HINT: after opening 1,000 windows, you can close them all at once by clicking: Window/Close All

Second Tip – what is the easiest way to find a transaction? Do you scroll through the register? Try report after report hoping to locate the item? Why not click Edit/Find?
Have the Home Screen Open if you want to do a Global Find. If you have a specific window open (such as your check writing), it will default to Find Checks:

Once the Find Window is open, you can do a simple search and ask for a specific invoice, check, etc. or you can go to Advanced Search (my personal favorite) and search for the exact dollar amount (or any other criteria). Either way, your work is done in half the time (or less!).
